Police are appealing for information following the incident which took place at the Ladbrokes betting office at Elmwood Street at around 5.10pm.

A member of staff was threatened during the incident, but was not harmed.

The man is described as 5’3” tall, slim build and was wearing a dark green balaclava, dark coloured top and dark blue tracksuit bottoms with three white stripes on legs and drops of white paint on bottoms.

A PSNI spokesperson said enquiries were continuing and asked anyone with information  to contact CID in Strand Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000.

Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they could contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Sinn Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has slammed those responsible for the robbery

She said “I would appeal for anyone  with information on whoever carried out this robbery to contact the police.”

It is the third armed robbery at Ladbrokes offices in the city. In the run-up to Christmas betting offices were held up in the Shantallow and Collon areas. Two shots were fired during the latter.

Following the pre-Christmas robberies, Ladbrokes said it was reviewing its security at its offices.
