Derry City’s grip of the Ford FAI Cup has been ended by “bogey” team Sligo Rovers.

Derry City boss Declan Devine has lost grip of the FAI Cup

In a game of few chances, Sligo went into the half-time break with a deserved 1-0.

Holders City made a better fight of it in the second half but threatened very little until the dying minutes of injury time when home keeper Gary Rodgers produced two excellent saves.

It is the fourth time Sligo have beaten the Brandywell club this season. Indeed, you would have to back to back just over six years to find when City emerged triumphal of the two – that was a 4-1 win in July, 2007.

Sligo went into the game hot favourites having defeated Declan Devine’s side on five of their last six meetings – scoring 16 goals and conceded only three.
