Barry McNamee expected to make move ‘nearer to home’

Barry McNamee will make a move ‘nearer to home’ according to Cork City boss John Caulfield.

The Ramelton native, 26, joined the 2018 League of Ireland champions last year from Derry City, but Caulfield confirmed he won’t be returning to Turners Cross.

Cork City failed to reclaim the league title this season and following their 2-1 defeat to Dundalk in the FAI Cup last week, the attacking midfielder has officially left the club.

“Barry has had a very good season and was involved in nearly all our games,” Caulfield said. “He indicated half way through the season that he’d move back up near his girlfriend. He did great for us but I expect him to join a team nearer his home.”

Derry City will unveil Declan Devine as their new manager later this evening (Monday) and Barry McNamee would surely interest the Creggan following their success together in the 2012 FAI Cup-winning campaign.
