QUIZ SCENE: NITWITS ON TOP AT DON

Nitwits, under the captaincy of the always reliable Bobby Dobbins, put in another impressive performance to claim victory at last night’s quiz in the Don Bar.quiz

However, the victory of the Nitwits was not up to the usual standard as the victory was only claimed in the final picture of the night.

Bobby and team mates Jogi Singh, John Gill and Lorcan Doherty, Ian Orr and Jim Walker  had to come from behind after a disastrous first three rounds which saw Kay’s Corner – Kay Devenney, John Doherty and John and Geraldine Campbell open up what was thought to be an unassailable lead.

However, Kay’s Corner appeared to hit a “mental block” and slowly but surely were caught by Nitwits who slowly whittled away at that lead which saw both go into the final round – the picture round – on level points.

With both leaders expected to get full rounds in what quizmaster, Newell McBride, said was one of the easiest photograph rounds he had seen, Kay’s Corner failed to identify to identify the final photo – a young Seamus Heaney.

So with Nitwits getting all the photographs correct, it was drinks all round for Bobby’s team. Third-placed Chancers – Helena Deehan, Eddie McCauley, Mike Knights and Josephine McBride never really threatened but still managed to clinch third spot.

Quizzing continues next Thursday night at the same time of 10.30pm. Quizmaster sent out an open invitation to come along for a good night’s “craic”  but warned – there will never be as easy as quiz as this one.
