Paddy McCourt to quit Finn Harps to take up new role at Derry City

FINN Harps are to be hit by the hammer blow of the imminent departure of Paddy McCourt.

The former Celtic winger is set to take up a new role at Derry City.

It is believed that the Candystripes have already come to an agreement with McCourt to take up the job of Youth Development Officer at the Brandywell.

It is said that he could double-job and combine his new role at Derry with his playing commitments at Harps until the end of the season.

McCourt’s wizardry has been on show at Finn Park since the 19-times capped Northern Ireland international signed at the Ballybofey club on the eve of the 2017 season.

McCourt’s spell-binding trickery and laser-like vision have captured the Finn Park faithful, but the 34-year-old Derry native is set for a return to his hometown club.

McCourt has a keen interest in coaching and recently launched the ‘Talent Development Academy’ alongside former Harps player and assistant manager Marty McCann.

A UEFA ‘A’ Licence holder, McCourt had been linked to a coaching role at Harps during pre-season, but it appears as if that wasn’t a runner.
