Akintunder and Smith leave Derry City FC

James Akintunde leaves Derry City after 30 months at the Brandywell

Derry City FC wishes to extend our thanks and best wishes to James Akintunde and Matty Smith who have left the club this week.

Manager Ruaidhri Higgins has paid tribute to the Akintunde who has spent the past two-and-a-half years at the Brandywell.

“James is a special person who, not only myself but everyone at the club is very fond of.

“He has made a fantastic contribution in his time at Derry City.

“On behalf of all of us- players, staff and supporters, I want to extend our very best wishes to James in his career going forward.”

Matty Smith leaves Derry City for Shelbourne FC

Meanwhile, Derry City FC have confirmed that it has reached an agreement with Shelbourne FC for the transfer of Matty Smith.

The 25-year old forward spent the second half of the season on loan at Tolka Park having played 20 times for the Candystripes since joining at the start of 2022.

“We wish Matty well in his career going forward,” said Derry City.
