Durkan calls for urgent traffic calming measures for Temple Road

SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan

SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan has pressed the Minister for Infrastructure for an update on the long-awaited traffic calming scheme for Temple Road, Strathfoyle.

In January, the Department for Infrastructure committed to move ahead with the scheme this financial year.

The MLA for Foyle said:

“I’ve been lobbying on behalf of residents to see long-standing concerns around road safety in the area addressed.

“Despite tabling a priority Assembly Question over three weeks ago, seeking an update on the scheme, it is yet to be answered. To date there’s been no concrete update on when this work will be carried out.

“Temple Road is a heavily-used stretch that cuts through the heart of this community.

“People have been raising serious concerns about speeding, pedestrian safety and the need for traffic calming for years.

“Confirmation of a traffic calming scheme is a step in the right direction but we need to ensure this doesn’t fall off the radar.

“I’ll continue to push for timely delivery and hope to receive positive news on when this scheme will be implemented, soon.”
