Echo Echo dance and theatre company
Echo Echo, which is based in Derry, is a well-established organisation known for its inclusive community work, support for local artists, and contribution to the city’s creative economy.
Ms McLaughlin said: ”This funding cut is deeply disappointing. Echo Echo isn’t just about performance, it provides valuable community engagement, supports local artists, and contributes to the wider creative economy of our city.
”This decision risks doing serious damage to Derry’s reputation as a cultural city. Echo Echo has been a cornerstone of our arts community for decades.
“If we continue to strip funding from organisations like this, we are not just undermining individual artists, we are dismantling the legacy of Derry as the first City of Culture.
“At a time when our community most needs connection, creativity, and opportunity, cutting support for the arts is short-sighted and deeply damaging.
”I will be raising this matter with the Department for Communities and the Arts Council as a matter of urgency.
“We need a fair and sustainable approach to arts funding that protects the future of Derry’s cultural institutions and the jobs and opportunities they support.”
