Mourners are expected to gather in large numbers today for the funeral of Letterkenny man Anthony Gallagher.
Mr Gallagher tragically lost his life on St Patrick’s Day when he and his brother were struck by a car at Lower Main Street in the early hours of the morning.
Anthony’s brother Martin, who survived the collision with serious injuries, will be unable to attend the funeral as he continues to receive treatment at Galway University Hospital.
Anthony’s Funeral Mass will take place in St. Eunan’s Cathedral this Thursday morning 20th of March at 11am followed by interment in Conwal Cemetery.
Late of 28 Daly Terrace, Anthony was a well-known figure in the town where he was employed as a ‘lollipop man’, helping schoolchildren to cross the road – less than 50 yards from where he was fatally injured.
A teenage boy suspected of driving the vehicle involved in the incident was arrested at the scene and questioned at Letterkenny Garda Station. He was released without charge on Tuesday morning. A file is being prepared for the DPP.
Mr Gallagher is predeceased by his mother Brigid and aunt Rosaleen.
He is survived by his brother Martin, cousin Kevin and his wife Dolores.
He also leaves behind his extended family, neighbours and many friends.
