Eastwood secures commitment to £20m fund for Derry

Derry’s MP Colum Eastwood has secured a commitment from the British Government for a £20m regeneration fund for the city.

Mr Eastwood secured the £20m Town Fund from the previous government and has now received confirmation from the Minister for Local Growth that Derry will be awarded the funding under the new Plan for Neighbourhoods scheme alongside a broad range of pre-approved interventions.

Said the former SDLP leaded: “I have received welcome confirmation from the Minister for Local Growth that Derry will be awarded a £20m funding package under the new Plan for Neighbourhoods scheme.

“Last year I negotiated with the previous government for a direct intervention to provide our city with regeneration funding to allow us to invest in the city centre, create new green spaces and give the town a real boost.

“I am delighted that Ministers have confirmed that the funding I secured is now guaranteed and will come with a broad range of pre-approved interventions which should make it easier to get this investment out quickly.

“At the last election I promised to focus on securing meaningful investment in Derry. This is one of the ways we’re delivering on that.

“I look forward to working with local businesses, the council and others to maximising the impact that this funding can make.”
