SDLP Foyle MP Colum Eastwood has welcomed an indication from the Crown Court in Belfast that the trial of ‘Soldier F’ for murder and attempted murder is expected to begin in September.

A short hearing was held in Belfast today.

Said the Foyle MP: “Confirmation from the Crown Court today that prosecution and defence teams expect to be ready to begin the trial of ‘Soldier F’ for the murder of James Wray and William McKinney and the attempted murder of five others by September is welcome progress.

“Bloody Sunday families were again in court in Belfast today as part of their decades long campaign for justice.

“For more than 50 years every conceivable obstacle has been placed in their path to protect agents of the state. Their resilience and dignity has been absolute.

“We’ll be standing with the families until the very end, until they have justice for their loved ones.”
