The heartbroken Derry girlfriend of a Lifford man fighting for his life after a brutal attack at his home has said his life has been on hold since.

Charles Dooher was beaten by five masked men armed with iron batons at his home on the Coneyburrow Road on Monday, January 20th last.

He was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he is fighting for his life.

His girlfriend, Charlotte Gallen, has been beside her beloved boyfriend’s bedside since praying he will pull through.

She posted on social media: “One week since life was put on hold. A week of sitting and talking by your bedside but you’re not talking back.”

Charlotte thanked everyone “for your prayers and kind messages” and asked the public to “keep the prayers coming, they’re needed now more than ever”.

Charles’ father, Charles Snr, was also beaten during the terrifying incident and treated at Letterkenny University Hospital but has since ben released.

Charlotte revealed in an earlier Facebook post how herself and Charles had been traveling in Australia this time last year but never expected for their lives to be turned upside down.

She wrote: “I just want to put out an appeal for information regarding the attempted murder of my partner Charles Dooher who was brutally attacked in his Lifford home on the morning of the 20th of January by 5 masked men who violently beat him shattering his skull and have left him fighting for his life.

“This time last year we were living in Australia sitting by the beach and today I sit by his bed side in intensive care praying for some sort of miracle to have the love of my life back with us in full health.

“Charlie has never failed to take my worries away and always fills me with a sense of peace and serenity with his kindness and big heart.

“If he could see me now he would be telling me to take a deep breath and have hope.

“His presence brought safety and I wish I could have given him that same protection from some of the evil people in this world.”

“Anybody who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the Coneyburrow Road, Lifford between 10am and 11am on that date is asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 074 9167100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
