NWRC Tiling student Rebecca Gavigan looks ahead of Apprenticeship week with Gerard Faulkner, Springtown campus and Luke McCloskey, Greystone and Limavady Campus.

North West Regional College (NWRC) is hosting a series of showcases to provide information about apprenticeship courses starting in September 2025.

The showcases, part of Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week, will be held at Springtown campus on February 4, and Greystone campus on February 6, from 3 – 8 p.m. Both events are open to applicants aged 16 and over.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour industry standard workshops at NWRC, sample various trades, talk to lecturers and apply for courses.

NWRC offers apprenticeships in trade areas including: welding, plumbing, electric installation, brickwork, painting and decorating, light vehicle body repair, woodwork, and tiling. Apprenticeships are also available in fields such as dental
nursing, housing, and health and social care.

For those with A-levels, Leaving Certificate, or Level 3 students NWRC offers Higher Level Apprenticeships (HLAs), where successful candidates will be employed in a company relevant to their chosen profession to gain valuable experience.

Students can study courses such as: Software Development, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Business and Enterprise, Financial Technologies, Engineering… and much more.

For applicants unable to secure an Apprenticeship, NWRC offers a wide range of FT Traineeship programmes which allows students to build the skills to progress on to Apprenticeship or further Level 3 study.

Dr. Catherine O’Mullan, Director of Curriculum and Academic Standards at NWRC said: “NWRC is delighted to be part of this series of events across Northern Ireland bringing together partners and stakeholders committed to the development and delivery of apprenticeships.

“Our courses include a wide range of employment opportunities.

“Apprenticeship training combines employed status, earning while you learn with obtaining knowledge and skills in state of the art facilities at the college and gaining further training and experience in employment.

“All apprenticeships are open to applicants aged 16, subject to entry criteria, I encourage anyone interested in starting or returning to education to attend our showcases and learn more about the opportunities available.”

The events will feature campus tours, workshop demonstrations, information sessions, and hands-on activities. Hair and beauty staff will also host barbering and nail art demos, along with mini treatments for visitors.

The college will also hold a Higher-Level Apprenticeship Employer Coffee morning on Wednesday February 5 from 9.30am – 11.30am in Strand Road Campus in the Dial centre.
