McLaughlin: Attacks on Translink buses in Derry unacceptable

SDLP Foyle MLA Sinéad McLaughlin has said that recent attacks of Translink buses in Derry is unacceptable

Ms. McLaughlin said: ”I am deeply concerned about reports of buses being attacked in Skeoge, Slievemore and Gobnascale.

“It is unacceptable to have bus drivers worried about being attacked whilst carrying out a vital public service.

”Whilst I am relieved to hear that none of the drivers or passengers were hurt during these attacks it is distressing to see such acts of violence taking place in our local community.

“The damage inflicted upon these buses will result in services being disrupted and therefore affect those who rely on these services.

”In response to these attacks, Translink have confirmed they have amended the bus routes in Slievemore and Skeoge.

“The amended bus routes will have the consequence of causing disruption to those who wish to get to work or school.

”I would urge those who are taking part in these attacks, to consider their actions and the impact it is having on their own communities and to stop their reckless behaviour.

“Those who operate, and avail, of these services deserve to do so without fear of being attacked.”
