Police are appealing for information following a report of an attempted theft in the Heather Road area of Derry on Monday 16th December.

Inspector Craig said: “It was reported at approximately 11.50am that a man was driving a van in the area when a blue Volkswagen Golf suddenly pulled out in front of him.

“Four masked men then approached the van and blocked the path of the vehicle. The suspects went to the front driver’s side door and the back doors of the van, attempting to open them.

“As the four masked men attempted to gain access into the van, a black BMW car was also seen circulating in the area

“The suspects then made off in the blue Volkswagen Golf after they failed to gain access to the vehicle.

“Enquiries are ongoing into this investigation and police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen either a blue Volkswagen Golf or a black BMW car in the area.

“Officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at the time, has any information or dash-cam footage, which could assist, to contact them on 101, and quote reference number 612 of 16/12/24.”

Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
