Staff at council depots in Skeoge and Strahan’s Road tucked in to some tasty breakfast baps earlier this week as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Staff were invited into the depots where Council provided a catering van for staff from various departments to enjoy breakfast together.

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Lilian Seenoi Barr joined the staff from across the district to thank them for their ongoing commitment to providing essential council services.

There were staff from a range of different departments present including: refuse collection, street cleansing, grounds maintenance, cemeteries, park rangers, property and fleet maintenance and waste management teams.

Extending her thanks to the staff, Mayor Barr said: “It was great to join staff at Skeoge and Strahan’s Road as they enjoyed a hearty breakfast, it gave me the opportunity to personally say thank you to each of them for all their hard work and commitment to their job.

“These members of staff show up every day to provide an essential service for residents and businesses across the city and district.

“They are often working in inclement conditions and in difficult environments, and often we don’t realise how much we rely on the work that they do.

“They are an integral part of our council services, and we would not be able to continue our work without them.

“This breakfast might be a small gesture, but it gives us the opportunity to reflect on their essential roles, and to recognise the importance of all that they do.”

All these services will continue throughout the festive period, so keep up to date with Recycling Centre Christmas opening hours and bin collections at recycling.derrystrabane.com/ or download the Derry Strabane Recycling App at the App Store or Google Play Store now.
