The latest victim of last weekend’s multiple fatality road tragedy in Co Donegal has been named locally.

He has been named as Samuel Hunter.

Mr Hunter, who was in his 70s, passed away earlier on Tuesday at Letterkenny University Hospital.

He was the third person to die following a two vehicle collision on the N15 road in the village of Liscooley on Friday evening last at 10pm.

Two other men, Ryan Glenn, 25, and Gordy Galbraith, who was in his 30s, died instantly at the scene.

Both men were from the Castelderg area of Co Tyrone and will be laid to rest later this week.

The late Mr Hunter and his wife were both rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital following last weekend’s horrific collision.

Ms Hunter is still in a serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

Mr Hunter was from the Donnyloop area outside Castlefin.

Gardai today reiterated their appeal for any witnesses to the crash to come forward following Mr Hunter’s passing.

A spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

“Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area of the N15 at Liscooley at approximately 10pm to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact (074) 916 7100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

The latest tragedy on Donegal’s roads has sent shockwaves through a county already struggling to cope with a spike in roads deaths.

So far this year a total of 17 people have died on Donegal’s roads compared to ten for all of last year.

Local parish priest of nearby Crossroads, Killygordon, Fr Patsy Arkinson, spoke last weekend of his grief at the latest tragedy.

He attended the scene of the crash late last Friday night and also said a rosary for those involved in the collision.

He described the scene as “shocking,” and that locals were “shocked and hurt” following the tragic incident.

Fr Arkinson also offered his thoughts and prayers to the deceased and injured in the collision.
