Harkin: Netanyahu arrest warrant will embolden global movement resisting genocide

People Before Profit Cllr Shaun Harkin said the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant is due to global resistance in response to indiscriminate mass murder and ethnic cleansing.

Said the Foyleside councillor: “This decision is a long time coming. The ICC determined Netanyahu and Gallan responsible for crimes against humanity, including starvation as a method of warfare.

“Without the relentless campaigning of people around the world, this would not have happened.

“David Lammy (British Foreign Secretary) and Keir Starmer must uphold their legal commitments and ensure the enforcement of the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrants.

“As an ICC member, the British state has a duty to support its decisions. If Netanyahu and Gallant enter British soil, authorities must arrest them.

“Anything else would contravene legally binding commitments.

“Starmer and Lammy support arming Israel and promoted US/Israeli propaganda and lies. Just like Joe Biden and his Administration, they are actively complicit with genocide.

“It is extraordinary that Britain is still exporting weapons to Israel.

“There can be no more red carpets anywhere in Ireland for US politicians and corporations voting to fund Israeli crimes against humanity or profiteering from genocide.

“The ICC decision will embolden the global movement opposing occupation and genocide to demand the supply of weapons for Israel’s babarism ends and hold government’s complicit with genocide to account.”
