Gardai have found an arms cache following a planned search in Inishowen, Derry Daily can reveal.

The cache included two guns and a quantity of ammunition.

The find was made following what Gardai have confirmed was “a planned search” on last Saturday, July 27.

The cache was found at a vacant house in the Burnfoot area of the county.

It is understood that the cache included an assault rifle, a handgun and an assortment of ammunition.

No arrests were made during the operation which is understood to have taken place at a derelict property.

It is believed Gardai were acting on intelligence they received.

A Gardai spokesperson confirmed they seized the items and that their enquiries into the find are ongoing.

The arms will now be forensically examined.

A spokesperson told Donegal Daily: “On Saturday the 27th of July 2024 Gardaí conducted a planned search of a vacant property in the Burnfoot area of Co. Donegal.

“In the course of the search two firearms were recovered along with a quantity of ammunition – they will be subject to technical and forensic examination.

“Enquiries are ongoing and no further information is available at this time.”
