Harkin: Elect a socialist MP for Foyle to challenge disaster capitalism

People Before Profit’s Shaun Harkin has called on the people of Foyle to elect a socialist MP to challenge the disaster of capitalism.

After submitting his official nomination papers today at the Guildhall, the Foyleside Councillor said: “I submitted my nomination papers to be the official People Before Profit candidate on July 4.

“Let’s end 14 years of Tory misrule and disaster capitalism implemented by all of Stormont’s establishment parties.

“It’s time for change. Seize the opportunity to elect a Socialist MP for Foyle to be a voice for Derry, a voice for all working class communities and a voice for Palestine.

“The January 18 mass public sector strike and huge demonstrations for Palestine shows there is a desire for change and for the people power led politics that only People Before Profit offer in this contest.

“The other parties in Foyle are infatuated with the wealthy and gaining power for themselves.

“They have assisted the Tories in the decimation of the health service, privatising social housing, implementing vicious welfare reforms, vandalising our environment and undermining workers rights.

“I will go to Westminster to hold the wealthy and powerful to account.

“Now more than ever we need political representation for the working class.

“If elected I go there ready to fight every day against the injustices that flow from the rotten British Parliament.

“From Creggan to Drumahoe I will represent people regardless of creed or colour.

“People Before Profit are fighters and campaigners. Send a socialist campaigner to Westminster on July 4.”
