United Against Racism condemn abuse of new Mayor

SDLP Foyleside Councillor Lilian Seenoir-Barr

United Against Racism Derry and North West says it utterly condemns the horrendous, racist abuse aimed at the prospective new Mayor of Derry.

Spokesperson Davy McAuley claims that organised far right elements are driving much of the online abuse:

“Yet again we see fascist grifters attempting to stir up hatred and division,” said Mr McAuley.

“The abuse that Lilian Seenoi Barr has received is as disgusting as it was tragically predictable.

“It follows a pattern of racist incitement and incendiary actions all geared towards creating a false narrative around immigration and to create a climate of fear.

“Fake Irish patriots with strong links to British far right leaders try to drip poison into our communities.

“United Against Racism will fight against these false narratives and those who try to make a living out of hatred.

“The huge demonstrations of solidarity for Gaza across the 32 Counties show the real, empathetic nature of our society.

“Anyone who cares about decency and humanity should call out racist hatred and unite to build a better Ireland.

“We are always stronger together.”
