Stab murder victim Blake Newland

Two brothers have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of 17-year-old Blake Newland in Limavady.

Stephen McGlinchey, 27, from Ballyhanedin Road in Claudy and Andrew McGlinchey, 29, from Roe Mill Gardens in Limavady, are jointly charged with the teenager’s murder on February 2 in Limavady.

Andrew McGlinchey is also charged with assaulting a police officer.

Blake Newland aged 17 was stabbed multiple times in Woodland Walk in the town last Friday.

He was found in a house by police after a man in his 50s was found stabbed in the area.

Three people, including the murder victim, were taken to hospital after police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

The brothers faced Antrim Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Ballymena, on Tuesday, via video link from police custody.

A detective sergeant from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team told the court that he could connect each of the defendants to their charges.

As neither brother applied for bail, District Judge Nigel Broderick remanded both of them into custody to Maghaberry prison.

Both men are due to appear in court until Monday, March 4.
