Funeral today for father-of-three killed in Donegal crash

Tragic crash victim Davey Doherty

A man killed in a road accident close to the border village of Bridgend, Co Donegal has been named locally as father-of-three David `Davey’ Doherty from Derry.

Mr Doherty, who lived in Derry’s Waterside, died in a single-vehicle accident at Carrowreagh, between the border villages of Bridgend and Killea shortly after 8.30am on Tuesday. A Garda spokesman said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The spokesman appealed to anyone who witnessed the fatal accident or who might have camera or dash-camera footage from the Bridgend to Killea road to come forward.

Mr Doherty, whose address was given as St Brecan’s Park, Waterside, Derry, was aged in his forties. his funeral will take place from is family home at St Brecan’s Park at 9.20am today, Friday, September 1, for Requiem Mass at 10am.

Following Requiem Mass at St Columba’s church, Long Tower, he will be laid to rest at Derry city cemetery.

Mr Doherty’s death, which was followed by the death of a three-year-old girl in County Laois this week, brings to 125 the number of people killed on the Republics roads so far this year.
