In just over a week’s time the blues will be ‘back in the bay’ once again with the much anticipated return of the Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues Festival.

This event has been built around great music, great people and a great location, and it will be back, full-swing, from Thursday September 7th to Monday the 11th.

The place will see wall to wall music with over 60 gigs with something for everyone in the village of Dunfanaghy in Donegal and other venues in the locality.

Organisers say that after the forced break in the annual event they are looking forward to seeing one of the north west’s premier live music events return to the streets of Dunfanaghy for a host of live music featuring some of Ireland’s best live acts as well as artists of travelling from as far afield as Nashville!

Renowned guitar player and singer Porter McClister from Nashville

A spokesperson said that they are looking forward to welcoming music-loving fans back to Dunfanaghy for the festival, the first time it’s been held since 2019.

They stated: “The amount of support we received from you, our loyal and dedicated music lovers, has been truly amazing and it has pushed us on to create a great line-up of acts for this year’s festival.

“Once again, we have wall-to-wall music with everything from hard driving blues, laid back roots, Americana, soulful jazz and everything in between.

“Of the 60+ gigs, almost all of which are free, we welcome back some firm festival favourites, as well as a host of exciting new acts to give the weekend the perfect balance.”

Unholy Gospel band

In recent years the event featured many local, national and international acts with almost all the gigs being free to attend in local bars, cafés and hotels.

Among those playing this year are The Mafia Cats, Grainne Duffy, Rust Jacks, Johnny Gallagher and the Boxty Band, Indigo Joe, Taste, Mr Castle, Portobello and many, many more.

Johnny Boxty

Renowned guitar player and singer Porter McClister is even travelling all the way from Nashville for the weekend – so fans will see the best of local, national and international talent over the four day event.

Programmes with the full line-up and times are available in all the venues for just €2 and the proceeds go to supporting the event.

See you on the dance floor!
