Tenants and staff from The Rosses came together to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the sheltered and supported housing scheme in Derry.

The Rosses, located in Kinsale Park in the Caw area of the city, was officially opened on 19th March 1993 by the first female Mayor of Derry, the late Marlene Jefferson MBE.

Northern Ireland’s largest housing association operates the scheme in partnership with local charity Inspire Wellbeing, giving tenants the freedom to live independently.

Tenants benefit from support tailored to their specific needs, ranging from assistance with domestic skills, household management, health care and welfare advice.

Tenants and staff were in high spirts as they gathered to celebrate the milestone anniversary. Joining the event is the scheme’s longest standing tenant Frances Bredin, who made her home there 29 years ago.

Reflecting on the significant anniversary, Leeanne Magee, Regional Head of Tenant, and Client Services for Choice said: “The longevity of The Rosses is a testament to the tenants who have made it their home and the staff who have ensured the sustainability of the scheme.

“Over the past year we have seen several supported living schemes, including The Rosses, reach important milestones, demonstrating a vital commitment from Choice to maintain and future proof our housing stock.

“Giving tenants the opportunity to live independent lives also facilitates their ability to contribute to the community they live in – further highlighting the vital role that sheltered and supported housing plays in society.

“At Choice, we provide quality and affordable homes but helping to create sustainable and supportive communities is at the centre of what we do.

“I would like to pay tribute to our partners Inspire Wellbeing for their dedication and expertise”.

Kerry Anthony MBE, CEO of Inspire Wellbeing said: “Everyone at Inspire was delighted to join with our partners at Choice to mark this significant milestone for The Rosses.

“The fact we were able to celebrate with residents and staff who have been part of life at The Rosses for twenty years is testimony to the strength of the community created here and the outstanding care and support that enables people to live happy, independent lives.

“We were delighted to welcome so many elected representatives to join the residents, staff, family, and friends for our celebration party.

“This event is the start of our celebrations of over 20 years of Inspire in the Northwest, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to another special event in the Guildhall on World Mental Health Day in October”.

The Rosses includes 34 self-contained single and double apartments along with a number of separate bungalows with onsite parking and landscaped gardens.

Located close to local amenities and shops, The Rosses is well served by transport links, with an adjacent bus stop to the city centre nearby.

Tenants can avail of a 24-hour telephone helpline and guest room facilities are available for families and friends.
