Higgins: We need to come out fighting as we’ve been below par

City manager Ruaidhri Higgins

Ruaidhri Higgins certainly hasn’t had his sorrows to seek on the injury front this season and the Derry City manager again found himself having to give another update ahead of this weekend’s game with Bohemians.

Skipper Patrick McEleney along with Michael Duffy and Cameron Dummigan all had to come off during Monday night’s defeat at St Pats.

However, the City boss insisted there was no need to pick his team today.

“Patrick won’t make Friday night but we won’t make a call on the other two until nearer kick-off,” he said.

“We have a very difficult game coming up, but whatever happens I have no doubt we will put out a team capable of winning.

“We have a break after Friday and we want to go into that on a high. We’ve been below par for the past 10 days or so but we’ve had the necessary conversations as a group.

“We need to be fully motivated and sometimes in games you just have to dig in. As long as you come off the pitch knowing you’ve given everything, then we can work with that.

“I’m confident we will come out fighting and we all know that we need a fully committed performance this weekend.”

Declan Devine’s team are just two points behind the hosts in the table at present so there is certainly plenty at stake for both clubs.

There was one other piece of bad news this week for the Brandywell club when it was confirmed, as was feared, that Colm Whelan will be out for the season with another ACL injury.

Friday’s game kicks off at 7.45 pm and will be shown live on RTE2.
