People Before Profit welcome the Coalition of Carers Organisations NI report “A New Deal for Unpaid Carers”.

Marking the importance of Carers Week and supporting the launch of the report, People Before Profit representative Maeve O’Neill said: “Care work is one of the most undervalued forms of work in our society and is done primarily by women. We need to start investing property in care work and particularly in unpaid carers.

“This report is the result of months of hard work and collaboration with over 240 carers who have been fighting tirelessly for their rights.

“The report sets out the priority policy changes that unpaid carers want to see in the realms of health and social care, welfare, housing, employment and more.

“It is a comprehensive and ambitious plan that will transform the lives of carers across our communities.

“People Before Profit welcome this report and call for its immediate implementation.

“Unpaid carers save the health and social care system £4.6 billion a year in care costs. They deserve better support and recognition for their invaluable contribution to society.

“We stand in solidarity with all unpaid carers and will continue to fight alongside them until they get the support they need and deserve.”
