People Before Profit Ballyarnett candidate Damien Doherty has urged the public in Derry to strike back and save the city’s Radio Foyle station.

Said Mr Doherty: “All People Before Profit candidates fully support the Radio Foyle journalists striking on Friday to protect their jobs and save our station.

“The NUJ action is part of a UK-wide response to Tory cutbacks across the BBC.

“The overwhelming majority of Derry people support the union’s fight.

“Radio Foyle is the only official State outlet to give the Derry/Strabane area a fair hearing.

“We need everyone in the northwest to let BBC bosses know that the people stand with the NUJ.

“The necessity of fighting to defend local jobs and local services won’t disappear when the polls close on Thursday night.

“The fight will go on.

“Our message to all trades unionists and to everybody who wants an end to Tory austerity and fair play for Derry is to use your vote on Thursday to – Strike Back With People Before Profit!”
