Joe Mulheron owned Derry’s famous Sandinos bar

There is sadness across Derry at the news this morning that the owner of Sandinos bar has passed away.

Joe Mulheron, who was also a well known folk singer, died on Tuesday evening.

He was aged 76.

SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood said on Twitter: “Very sorry to learn of the passing of well known and respected publican and folk singer Joe Mulheron.

“Joe will be sorely missed but remembered fondly.

“Thinking of Joe’s family and all who knew him at this difficult time,” added the Foyle MP.

Writer and commentator Darach MacDonald tweeted: “Joe Mulhern, the Man of No Property, the founder of Sandino’s in Derry – the best socialist bar in the world – has passed away.

“No pasaran, vive Sandino, vive Joe.”
