Harkin: Support striking Road Service workers

People Before Profit Councillor Shaun Harkin has called for all parties to support striking Road Service workers.

Said the Foyle councillor: “People Before Profit representatives joined Roads Service workers on the picket line today.

“Road Service workers provide a vital service, crucially including fixing our roads, but are drastically underpaid.

“We fully support their demand to immediately scrap the outdated and abusive bonus system.

“DfI officials need to stop stalling and resolve the dispute immediately.

“They are not only forcing workers onto the picket line but are also endangering public health by delaying urgent repairs on our road network.

“We also call on all the big parties to follow through on the pledge they made when they agreed to support our Derry and Strabane Council motion to fully support the workers and their union UNITE.

“Now’s not the time for them to continue sitting on their hands.

“Stormont is down but no one should wait to make their demands for fair pay and justice.”
