People Before Profit councillors Maeve O’Neill and Shaunk Harkin

People Before Profit Cllrs Shaun Harkin and Maeve O’Neill have urged political representatives to support the Derry call centre workers campaign.

They say: “Derry’s call centres are our new shirt factories.

“Thousands of workers are employed in them, but too often pay and conditions are not what people deserve.

“Just as shirt factory workers gained and benefited from trade union representation, so too will call centre workers.

“AEGIS have launched the ‘Derry Call Centre Campaign’ to bring trade union rights to all our call centre workers.

“We fully support this effort and encourage all call centre workers to get in touch with the campaign.

“At this week’s full meeting we are calling on all parties and representatives to back our motion for Derry and Strabane Council to give full support to the campaign.

“The cost of living crisis has exposed corporate profiteering like never before.

“Now’s the time for workers rights and a collective voice.”
