SDLP Foyleside Councillor Shauna Cusack has welcomed the provision of large brown wheelie bins for Templemore Park following a request to Derry City and Strabane District Council.

The rollout will begin next week and bins can be used to dispose of both garden and food waste as part of the Council’s drive to increase recycling rates across the district.

Said Cllr Cusack: “I was contacted by several residents of Templemore Park regarding the rollout of large brown bins for the area.

“I’m pleased to confirm, that following my request council will deliver bins to each property within the next week.

“This provision comes just in time for the spring and with it grass cutting season.

“The collection schedule will take place on Wednesdays and the new brown bins will be serviced fortnightly on the same week as the black wheelie bins.

“The majority of areas across the city have already benefitted from this scheme, one which has been very successful in increasing the rates of recycling for garden and food waste.

“All brown bin waste is then turned into compost which is utilised by council across their green spaces such as local parks.

“In doing so, the initiative helps cut costs and reduce harmful emissions.

“I want to thank the cleansing department for their swift action on this matter.”
