Cusack hits out at new ‘plague’ of graffiti in Foyleside

SDLP Foyleside Councillor Shauna Cusack has spoken of her frustration and disappointment at a series of spray paint vandalism in her community.

Said Cllr Cusack: “Everywhere I look recently I am confronted by fresh graffiti along our roads and streets extending beyond my own constituency.

“Lamposts, utility cabinets and even people’s property have been targeted by someone’s egotistical scribblings.

“I’m not going to detail the names as this defacing of public and private property will be obvious to many.

“This is simply not acceptable.

“We all work very hard to keep our communities clean and presentable neighbourhoods to be proud of.

“This unwelcome graffiti shows a total disrespect and disdain for our shared spaces and the efforts of residents and others.

“It’s as if they want Derry to look like a ghetto.

“After much discussion I had previously been successful in having utility companies clean and repaint any cabinets in my area that had become eyesores.

“Thanks to this vandalism, we now we are back to square one again.

“My message to those responsible for this pointless graffiti to think about the impact of what they are doing on our beautiful City and find a more productive and welcome outlet for expressing themselves.

“I would ask anyone with any information to get in touch,” added Cllr Cusack.
