Derry City Cemetery

Derry City and Strabane District Council has closed its cemeteries and recycling centres because of the prevailing weather conditions and safety to staff and the public.

The council tweeted this morning: “The public are also advised that all Council cemeteries will be closed to the public today with the exception to facilitate burials which will go ahead as normal.

“Council recycling centres and parks will be opened when it is safe to do so.”

UPDATE: Recycling centres in Claudy and Strathfoyle have now reopened. All recycling centres in Strabane have reopened except Donemana.

In its update within the past few minutes on Twitter DCSDC say: “We are working to get other RC sites open as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

“Council anticipates some disruption to its bin collection services today.

“We are advising residents to leave their bin out for collection as normal.

“However, for those whose bin is not emptied today it will be emptied as conditions improve later in the week.”
