McLaughlin urges progress on Lone Moor Road traffic calming measures

SDLP Foyle MLA Sinead McLaughlin

SDLP Foyle MLA Sinéad McLaughlin has urged the Department for Infrastructure to make progress on traffic calming measures on the Lone Moor Road.

This follows its inclusion on a list of sites where the Department hopes to introduce measures to address the speed of traffic.

It follows the release of the DfI Western Division’s annual report for 2022.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I am very pleased to see the inclusion of the Lone Moor Road on this list of potential sites for traffic calming measures.

“This is a very dangerous stretch of road which unfortunately led to the tragic death of a child just a few years ago.

“Residents have long called for traffic calming measures to be introduced in this area and we have not seen anywhere near the requisite level of progress made on this issue, in part due to the lodging of a previous objection to these measures.

“Of course, while it is welcome that the Lone Moor Road has been included on this list of potential sites, this is only one of a number of sites where this may be delivered subject to design and funding.

“I would urge the Department to expedite this important scheme so that we can finally see the long-awaited progress and ensure that we ensure no further preventable tragedies take place.”
