Cusack calls for care and consideration with fireworks

SDLP Foyleside Councillor Shauna Cusack

SDLP Foyleside Councillor Shauna Cusack has condemned the inconsiderate and ‘selfish’ use of fireworks throughout the city over the last week.

Said Cllr Cusack: “For the past few nights I have heard fireworks being set off well after dark in my constituency.

“At approximately 9.45pm while I attended a Full Council meeting they sounded louder than ever.

“I have since had numerous reports from people throughout the City who are enduring the same nightly upset.

“I can only imagine the distress caused to the vulnerable, parents of young children woken from their sleep, workers and school kids who have to rise early, not to mention pets, who we know get very distressed and fearful.

“Those who are doing this obviously have no consideration for others and how this can impact on the lives of people living close by.

“I would appeal to those responsible whether young or mature, to think about their communities, also think about the real dangers of toying with such dangerous items outside a controlled and monitored environment.

“While fireworks can be great fun, remember these are explosives, which require a license and in the wrong hands can cause devastating damage.’’
