SDLP’ Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan and outgoing Chairperson of the All-Party Group on Mental Health has reflected on the work the group has undertaken since it was first established.

Said the Foyle MLA: “Today was my last meeting as Chair of the All Party Group on Mental Health.

!I established the group several years ago, recognising the magnitude of mental health issues facing society, the need to improve services and support for those living with poor mental health and the importance of promoting positive mental well-being and resilience across our population.

“While the problems around mental health continue to grow, exacerbated by the pandemic and cost of living, I am proud of the role the APG has played in helping progress a number of important initiatives, including a Mental Health Champion, Specialist Perinatal Mental Health teams; a Children’s Mental Health Charter and funding for schools to promote and support mental well-being.

“Mental Health remains a huge priority for me and the SDLP.

“I will continue to strive for a fair deal for mental health and hold any new Executive and its departments to account.

“I look forward to working with new members and officers of the group to deliver for people across the North.”
