Public urged to come out and show Strabane some love

The Strabane BID are urging the large crowds expected in the town for the Summer Jamm Festival next weekend to make a conscious effort to support local businesses on the day.

The Love Strabane day on Saturday June 18th will see a number of local retailers offering special discounts and promotion to capitalise on the extra footfall in the town centre.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Sandra Duffy, encouraged the public to get behind the initiative.

“Love Strabane aims to showcase the very best of the town’s business and retail offering on one of the busiest days of the year,” she said.

“I know excitement is building in the town for the Strabane Summer Jamm festival and I would urge all those who are attending to show some love for our fantastic local businesses by making a conscious effort to support them on the day.

“Summer Jamm is a major highlight in Council’s annual events calendar and we are delighted to see it return in its original format this year, with a fantastic outdoor celebration planned.”

This year’s Bold and Beautiful themed Strabane Summer Jamm Festival is set to be an explosion of entertainment on the streets of the town.

Many of the events are free and there’s something to suit all ages from live music to sensational street food, funfair rides, arts, crafts and a petting farm.

Chair of Strabane BID, Kieran Kennedy, said retailers were looking forward to seeing throngs of people return to the town centre after a challenging few years.

“This is the first summer since 2019 that retailers are able to welcome customers without restrictions,” he said.

“It’s been a challenging time of reduced capacities and tailoring services to meet the restrictions so now more than ever our local businesses need your support to help them get back on their feet.

“When you choose local you are keeping money in the Strabane economy and supporting the local job market so it’s a win win for everyone.”
