Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Grounds Maintenance and Streetscape teams have been recognised for the stunning plant and floral displays that adorn the city at the Translink Ulster in Bloom Awards.
The teams retained their Best Large Town / City category title at the environmental, community and horticultural awards which were hosted this year in Cultra Manor, Holywood, Co Down.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Graham Warke, said the reward was just desserts for the teams dedicated work during the Covid 19 pandemic.
“Sincere congratulations to our Environment team for this well-deserved recognition for the work they do on a daily basis to make sure our city is always looking its best,” he said.
“I travel around our Council area every day and I have been able to see first-hand the beautifully presented and maintained floral displays which provide a bright and welcoming backdrop.
“A lot of this work is unseen so I am delighted the teams have been recognised for their dedication and pride in the work which they have demonstrated throughout the challenges of the last two years.”
Translink Chairman, Dr Michael Wardlow, added: “Translink is proud to continue its support of Ulster in Bloom which illustrates the wonderful community spirit that exists in cities, towns and villages across Northern Ireland.
“As Northern Ireland’s public transport provider, servicing communities large and small, it’s fantastic to see the time and dedication of volunteers, council workers and local groups being recognised and celebrated.
“At Translink we’re also playing a part in making the world we live in a cleaner, greener place to enjoy, so it’s great to see sustainability and biodiversity such a major element in the work of this year’s winners.

The Translink Ulster in Bloom Competition is co-ordinated by the Northern Ireland local Government Association (NILGA).
