THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed clarity from the Western Trust regarding the reopening of the Rosebud Cottages respite facility.

The service which accommodates up to six children, helping local families and offers short-term respite care, temporarily closed in December 2021.

Said the Foyle MLA said: “After liaising with families affected by the closure of Rosebud Cottages and the Western Trust, I’m pleased to confirm that it is envisioned that respite at the facility will restart at the end of April.

“This is a crucial provision for children with complex needs and their families who have been left without support throughout lockdown and have already faced an incredibly difficult two years.

“Many of these families have witnessed severe deterioration and often regression in their children’s conditions within that period.

“They need this crucial crutch now more than ever. They deserve proper services and support.”
