Former Mayor of Derry and Strabane Councillor Brian Tierney

SDLP councillor Brian Tierney has called on Translink to provide a replacement bus service for people in the Skeoge area.

The current bus service has been suspended as a result of roadworks in the area.

Councillor Tierney has contacted Translink asking for a replacement service for residents.

Said Cllr said: “The cancellation of the regular bus service to the Skeoge area as a result of roadworks is causing significant disruption for people living in this community.

“Residents rely on the local bus service to get them to work, school, to visit friends and family and to carry out vital errands like shopping.

“In the absence of the regular service many people will be forced to make alternative arrangements, but this is not possible for everyone and will have significant consequences.

“While I understand the need to carry out these important road works, which will be welcomed by the local community, we also need to understand the knock-on effects it will have.

“I have contacted Translink and urged them to put a replacement service in place while these roadworks are ongoing. Entry to the Skeoge area is being maintained for local residents and I see no reason why this can’t be the case for public transport.

“This service is an important lifeline for people in this area and we need to see it restored as soon as possible.”
