THE SDLP’s Sinéad McLaughlin has welcomed significant progress on the A6 Dungiven to Drumahoe dualling scheme.
SDLP Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon visited the project on Wednesday.
The £220 million scheme will provide 25.5 kilometres of high standard dual carriageway between Drumahoe and Dungiven, including a bypass of Dungiven with new roundabouts connecting the scheme to the existing road network at either end.
Said the Foyle MLA: “People in Derry have been waiting for this road upgrade to be completed for many years.
“I am delighted to see that work is continuing at pace under the leadership of SDLP Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon. When completed this modern road will have benefits for people right across the North.
“As both a businesswoman and a public representative I have heard time and time again how the North West’s poor transport links hurt our chances of attracting investment.
“This dualling scheme will make us much more accessible to other parts of the island and help in our efforts to attract new businesses and job growth.
“It will also make it easier for people to visit Derry and the surrounding areas and contribute to our growing tourism sector.
“SDLP Minister Mallon has once again demonstrated her commitment to delivering for local people.
“Even though our Executive has been collapsed due to the selfishness of the DUP, and other parties prefer to focus on their own interests, Minister Mallon is working every day to improve the lives of people in our communities.”
