Seven more deaths, 3,609 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported seven further Covid-19-related death over the past 24 hours in the North of Ireland.

Three of these were outside the current reporting period.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive result in a test for Coronavirus.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in North of Ireland recorded by the Department of Health since the start of the pandemic is at 3,145.

Sadly, one of these deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

Today’s data from the Department of Health shows there has been a further 3,609 positive cases of Coronavirus in the North of Ireland, a fall of 228 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.

It includes cases confirmed from samples taken in previous days, not necessarily just in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

As of today, the number of positive cases confirmed in the past seven days was 24,512.

The statistics show that in the past 24 hours there has been a further 206 Covid-19 cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of two on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.

Over the past seven days, there were 1,204 cases recorded in the Derry and Strabane Council area.

The infection rates within Derry and Strabane is still the lowest of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland with 797 cases per 100,000.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 106 per cent.

The Department of Health now records that 205 people (mostly in hospitals) have died from Coronavirus in the Derry City and Strabane Council area.

There are currently 399 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals here.

There are 15 patients with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units, with 11 people on ventilators.

There are 24 people being treated in Altnagelvin Hospital with Coronavirus with two people with Covid-19 in intensive care.

The figures show that 8.17 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are occupied by people with Coronavirus and it is running at 6.20 per cent under capacity for beds.

The Department of Health reports that 173 care homes in the North of Ireland are dealing with an outbreak of Coronavirus, with 1,183 closed cases of Covid-19 in care homes here.

In the Western Trust area, 19 of its 67 care homes are dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 3,689,383 vaccines for Covid-19 had been administered in the North of Ireland as of Thursday.
