SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood has raised an Early Day Motion in Parliament congratulating Steelstown Brian Ógs on their All-Ireland Intermediate Football final victory against Trim in Croke Park on Sunday.

Said the Foyle MP: “The entire city and county were behind Steelstown Brian Ógs on Sunday as they travelled to Croke Park to face their opponents Trim in the All-Ireland Intermediate Football final.

“It was encouraging to see the blue and yellow flags of Steelstown on lampposts, outside bars and flying from cars all over Derry.

“I was also pleased to see other local GAA and sporting clubs get behind Brian Ógs in offering support and best wishes.

“It’s what sport, especially in Derry, is all about.

“To go to the hallowed ground of Croke Park and put in such an impressive performance was a credit to the team, their coaches and everyone involved in the club, past and present.

“Their victory has ignited great community spirit in the city, reaching beyond the traditional borders of GAA communities and among soccer and rugby fans.

“Football and Gaelic games are alive and well in Derry City, and Steelstown Brian Ógs are fantastic ambassadors for the sport,” added Mr Eastwood.
