Two further deaths, 3,105 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported two further Covid-19-related death over the past 24 hours in the North of Ireland.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive result in a test for Coronavirus.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in North of Ireland recorded by the Department of Health since the start of the pandemic is at 3,130.

Sadly, over the weekend one death was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

Today’s data from the Department of Health shows there has been a further 3,105 positive cases of Coronavirus in the North of Ireland, a rise of 411 on figures given yesterday for Saturday.

It includes cases confirmed from samples taken in previous days, not necessarily just in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

As of today, the number of positive cases confirmed in the past seven days was 25,884.

The statistics show that in the past 24 hours there has been a further 150 Covid-19 cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of 18 on figures given on Friday for Thursday.

Over the past seven days, there were 1,184 cases recorded in the Derry and Strabane Council area.

The infection rates within Derry and Strabane is still the lowest of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland with 784 cases per 100,000.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 102 per cent.

The Department of Health now records that 203 people (mostly in hospitals) have died from Coronavirus in the Derry City and Strabane Council area.

There are currently 362 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals here.

There are 14 patients with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units, with 11 people on ventilators.

There are 20 people being treated in Altnagelvin Hospital with Coronavirus with one person with Covid-19 in intensive care.

The figures show that 7.61 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are occupied by people with Coronavirus and it is running at 1.97 per cent under capacity for beds.

The Department of Health reports that 182 care homes in the North of Ireland are dealing with an outbreak of Coronavirus, with 1,160 closed cases of Covid-19 in care homes here.

In the Western Trust area, 22 of its 67 care homes are dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 3,683,432 vaccines for Covid-19 had been administered in Northern Ireland as of Monday.

A total of 1,416,734 people have had their first dose and 1,315,589 have had their second dose, while 19,648 third doses have been administered.

A total of 931,461 booster jabs have been administered as of Monday.
