THE Department of Health has announced a further 3,227 new cases in the North of Ireland in the last 24 hours.
That’s a fall of four on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
There has been one further Covid-19-related death (one outside the current reporting period) bringing the total number of deaths (mostly in hospitals) linked to Coronavirus here since the start of the pandemic is 2,958.
None of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 17,248 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 267 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of 63 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 1,574 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March 2020 there have now been 33,417 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has climbed again, this time to 1,040.4 cases per 100,000 – now the highest of all 11 councils in the North.
The Department has to date recorded a total of 189 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now down to 101 per cent.
There are currently 254 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 34 patients being treated in intensive care with 26 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 6.13 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 24 patients with Coronavirus.
Six of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.
The hospital is currently running at 1.67 per cent under capacity for beds.
A total of 44 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 1,031 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
To date, a total of 3,455,229 Coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the North which included first and second dose vaccinations and the booster jab.
