Sinn Fein Councillor Patricia Logue

SINN Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has requested a meeting with the Rivers Agency and the Department for Infrastructure to discuss the ongoing problems of recurring flooding at housing developments along the Foyle and Letterkenny Roads.

Said Cllr Logue: “I have written to the River Agency DFI regarding recurring flooding in the Foyle Road/ Letterkenny Road, Lecky Road and Old City Close areas in Derry city. I have requested a meeting with them as a matter of urgency.

“Regular flooding has been ongoing there for many years.

“The residents in these areas are demanding that remedial measures are carried out to address these repeated occurrences.

“Most of these areas are adjacent to the River Foyle, therefore I believe that a comprehensive inspection and survey programme is required to assess the structural condition of the network.

“There are plans for more, much needed housing to be built in this area over the coming years.

“This will put an even bigger strain on the system and residents will find it increasingly difficult to get house insurance.”
