Three further deaths, 1,469 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has announced a further 1,469 new cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.

That’s a fall of 377 on figures given yesterday for Saturday.

There have been three further Covid-19-related deaths (none outside the current reporting period), with the total to date since the start of the pandemic (mostly in hospitals) now at 2,843.

Sadly, one of these latest deaths over the weekend was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

In the past week, the Department has recorded 11,930 new cases of Coronavirus.

There has been a further 79 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of 17 on numbers given on Friday for Thursday.

Over the past seven days there have been a further 727 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.

This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 29,086 positive cases within the council boundary.

The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen slightly to 480.6 cases per 100,000 – still the lowest rate of all 11 councils in the North.

The Department has now recorded a total of 183 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the lowest out of all councils here.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals remains at 103 per cent.

There are currently 378 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.

There are 36 patients being treated in intensive care with 26 patients on ventilators.

The Western Trust reports that 8.57 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 29 patients with Coronavirus.

Four of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.

The hospital is currently running at 2.29 per cent at bed over capacity

A total of 35 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 976 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.

Ten out of 68 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

To date, a total of 2,916,048 Coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the North.
