UU’s Magee Campus in Derry

PEOPLE Before Profit Cllr Shaun Harkin has said that the parking congestion outsie Magee campus is the responsibility of Infrastructure Minister Nicola Mallon and Ulster University bosses.

Said Cllr Harkin: “Traffic congestion around Magee is terrible and a source of constant frustration for people living there.

“But the responsibility for congestion lies with the failure of the SDLP DfI Minister and Ulster University bosses to act swiftly to resolve the situation.

“Parking congestion has plagued the area for years – and residents campaigned for a resolution winning broad support.

“They were told a resolution would be enacted with a new car park opened – but here we are again.

“The inaction by authorities has caused the rise in tensions.

“Calling for an enforcement crackdown on students, workers and people playing football in Magee isn’t a solution.

“We need more easily accessible parking provision immediately – that’s the solution.

“The lack of urgency to see parking resolved in the Magee area is typical of the lack of urgency and follow-through for Derry.

“Residents are right to be angry and we will back the demand for a genuine resolution to traffic congestion,” added the Derry politician.
