Man charged with murder of woman found in burning car

Police were called to the scene of murder at Quarry Road, Knockloughrim, Co Derry

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team, investigating the murder of Katrina Rainey in Co Derry on Tuesday, October 12, have charged a 59-year-old man with murder.

He is to face Dungannon Magistrates’ Court via videolink on Saturday, October 16, for a first remand hearing.

Police were called to the scene on Tuesday morning following reports a carry on fire at Quarry Road, Knockloughrim.

Fire and Rescue Service personnel along members of the NI Ambulance Service also attended.

Katrina Rainey, who was in her 50s, found in the burning car around 5.40 was taken to hospital but died from her injuries.

A 59-year-old man was also taken to hospital for treatment but was later arrested on suspicion of murder.
